Cranworth (or Cranny as it is known) is a favourite "runs" water in
the Breckland area of Norfolk. The lake itself is an oddly shaped
pit, starting of very shallow at the car park end, and with an
average depth throughout of around 6ft.
There is a big head of common and mirror carp in the lake, making
the place quite easy (and also very busy during the summer months).
One day in August 04 on there I counted 56 carp cruising the surface
of the warm water.
Many baits work well on Cranworth, in the past Luncheon meat has
done well for me (back in the day!), but in truth, any good carp
much will put you in with a chance!
Many people use Cranworth as a testing ground for new rigs, bait
and methods.
The largest reported carp that I know of is a 28lb mirror, but
the lake has also turned up a tench over 10lb. It's possible that
the carp grow well due to the fact that there is a fair head of
crayfish in the lake.
With that in mind, it's worth thinking about the softness of your
baits.
Check out the photo's in the gallery to see carp from this venue.
